WEST POINT – Mary Alice Gibson, 93, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at Dugan Nursing Home in West Point. She was born Dec. 22, 1913, in Oklahoma to the late Dr. and Mrs. S.L. Hollingsworth. She was raised in Columbus, where she attended school and college. She married John Peter Hairston. They lived in Crawford, where she played the organ at the United Methodist Church. After his death, she earned a B.S. degree from Mississippi University for Women and an M.S. degree in social science from the University of Tennessee. She worked for the Department of Human Services in many counties and later for the WIN program in Columbus, retiring in 1975. She enjoyed playing piano, sewing, knitting, crocheting, recalling history and telling stories.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oaklimb Cemetery in Crawford. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Peter Hairston (Nancy) of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Watt Hairston (Kathy) of Thompson's Station, Tenn.; two daughters, Nanette Williams (Bill) of Calhoun City and Alice Edwards (Bill) of Crawford; a daughter-in-law, Frances Hairston of Crawford; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her !rst husband, John Peter Hairston; her second husband, Leonard C. Gibson; a brother, James O. Hollingsworth; a sister, Marjorie Tims; a son, James Lamar Hairston; and a granddaughter, Kizzie Hairston.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
