Dr. J. W. Parrish
Death of Aged Physician at His Home in this City Last Evening
From Daily Democrat Jan. 7
Dr. J. W. Parrish passed away at his late residence No. 160 West Franklin st., this city last night at 5:30, aged seventy-six years, four months, three days. His death was caused by a severe attach of bronchial pneumonia. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Emma Parrish, one son, Carey, by a former wife, and a four-years-old daughter, Mary surviving. Carey Parrish, who resides on a farm in Jennings county, was notified and arrived here last night. Dr. Parrish was in early manhood a cabinet maker, and worked at his trade in Bloomington. He began the practice of medicine at North Vernon and continued to practice there for three years, after which he has been engaged in the practice of medicine for forty-two years, he being at the time of his death the oldest practitioner in the city. Dr. Parrish was in many respects a remarkable man. He was a man of more than average intelligence. In fact, he was the possessor of a strong mind. He possessed a strong will and never yielded his opinions to any man. He was successful in the practice of medicine, and his friends were of a class that stuck to him to the last. He may have made mistakes, who has not? With all that, Dr. Parrish will be missed form among us. We love to think of the good (that those who have gone on before us have done, and not the evil with which they may be charged, per chance, by some enemy.
The funeral services will be held at the house on Friday afternoon, a 2 o'clock. The Rev. E. F. Mahan officiating. The casket will be open from 7 o'clock Tuesday evening until 2 o'clock p.m. Friday, so that the friends may view the remains. Interment in Forest Hill cemetery, R. F. Stewart in charge.
