OBITUARY:
Lewis Gilbert Browning, 90, of Shelbyville died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Major Hospital. Born Feb. 18, 1916, in Greenwood, he was the son of Roy and Lellia (Umbarger) Browning. He married Olive "Louise" Bray, and she survives. Other survivors include one son, Larry (wife, Connie) Browning of Shelbyville; one daughter, Sharon Kay (husband, George) Roser of Memphis, Tenn; two brothers, Lester Browning and Warren "Brownie" Browning, both of Shelbyville; two sisters, Sarah Phipps of Waldron and Ethel May Hilt of Shelbyville; six grandchildren, Dusty Roser, Kelly (husband, Henry) Foster, Wendy (husband, John) Foster, Carrie Browning, Adam Browning and Bess Browning; and three great-grandchildren, Rustin Roser, Brady Foster and Nicky Foster. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Browning had been an independent fresh milk hauler in Shelby and surrounding counties from 1940 to 1970. He was employed with Farm Bureau Co-op from 1971 until retiring in 1994. He was a member of Harvest Bible Chapel, Shelbyville Odd Fellows Lodge, Eagles Lodge, AARP, Knights of Columbus Social Club and the Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. Mr. Browning received the designation from Hostess Bakery as the Twinkie King. He was invited on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 1997 and has been interviewed by hundreds of media spokesman since his designation. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brent Halvorsen officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
