Isadore Albert Powell, Jr., 85, of Severn, MD died November 5, 2014
Isadore was born February 22, 1929, in Charleston, SC to the late Marie Barrett Powell and Isadore Albert Powell, Sr. In addition to his parents, Isadore was predeceased by his brother, Edward Barrett Powell (Eulalia Trotter). He attended Avery Institute, and received his undergraduate degree from South Carolina State. He received his Master's degree from Central Michigan University.
Isadore served for twenty-nine years as an Infantry officer in the United States Army. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal (three oak leaf cluster), the Bronze Star medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam service Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm (unit citation), the Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal. He loved his volunteer work with the Red Cross and his other civic organizations.
Isadore is survived by his wife of 50 years, Persephone Walker Powell; his son Brian Walker (Sherry Rudder) Powell; grandson Sean Alexander Powell; his brother Dennis Warren Powell; nephew Edward Barrett Powell, Jr.; nieces Pamela Powell, Debra Powell, Antoinette Powell and other family members and friends.
Memorial services to celebrate Isadore's life will be held Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Main Post Chapel, 4419 Llewellyn Avenue, Fort George G. Meade, MD 20755, at 9:30 a.m.
Interment Services will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122 or the Alzheimer's Association , 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
