She was born in Jacksonville, TX, on December 8, 1915. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom N. Barber.

Dessie is survived by her son Tom N. Barber, Jr., and his wife Elizabeth, her grandson John R. Kirby and his wife Lina, and her great-granddaughter Selam; her son Roger and his wife Diana, and her grandchildren Robert, Richard, and Sarah.

A Memorial Service will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079, Thursday, July 28, 2016, at 12:30 pm.

Dessie was a member of the Eighth Church of Christ Scientist, Houston, Texas.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that any donations be made to the Eighth Church of Christ, Scientist, 11976 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77024, and/or the Houston Visiting Christian Science Nursing Service, 1834 Columbia St., Houston, TX 77008.
