Douglas Lawson Tate, 82, joined his wife in Heaven on August 13, 2012, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Rev. J. T. Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Doug “D.L.” Tate was born to John Andrew and Goldie Tate on October 9, 1929 in Shallowater, Texas.

He married the love of his life, Pinkie Pauline Tate, on July 6, 1948. They spent 60 years celebrating their love.

In Doug’s early years, his passion was his work in the cattle industry. Doug was instrumental in bringing several cattle auction barns to West Texas. He helped open several barns in Colorado City, Big Spring, Lubbock, Lamesa, and Ballinger. In addition to opening the cattle auction barns, once moving to San Angelo, Doug was considered an excellent cattle buyer and a “regular” at Producers Livestock Thursday Sale.

As he grew older, his passion switched to socializing with friends and his family.

Doug and Pauline had 4 children throughout the years. He shared his love of cattle with his son, Douglas Andrew. Doug and Pauline enjoyed the Elks Lodge often where he became a Trustee. His friends continued to enjoy his humor and good wit in the many years after the Elks Lodge. Pauline and Doug continued to host parties at their home in San Angelo. Their friends looked forward to their parties, dominoes, and cards over the years. When his grandchildren were born, Doug, PawPaw, tried to spend individual time with them all. He often took Chad to the Thursday Sale with him; Shawna and Justin spent lots of free time at their house; Crystal loved to spend much of the summers at their house; Aubrey enjoyed spending holidays with him.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers and one sister, his wife, Pauline, and his son, Douglas Andrew.

Doug is survived by his children, Sondra Hall and her husband J.D. of Ackerly, Penny Price and husband, Steve of San Angelo, and Donald Tate and wife Nancy of Buda. He is also survived by his grandchildren Chad Brown and wife of Natasha of Lubbock, Shawna Boland and husband Billy of Blanchard, Okla., Justin Tate and wife Becca, Crystal King and wife Ryan of San Angelo, Ryan Perdue and wife Rocio of Houston, Amy Maxon and husband Clay of Canyon Lake, and Aubrey and Nathan Tate of Buda. Doug was also blessed with several great grandchildren, Kelcey Grimes, John and Austin Boland, Kenzie King, Jenna Tate, Chelby Brown, Braden, Ethan, and Katelyn Maxon. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Chad Brown, Justin Tate, Ryan King, Ryan Perdue, Jon Boland, and Austin Boland.

Special thanks to the staff of 4North Shannon Hospital. Thank you for making his last days comfortable.
