Samuel G. Bosserd Sr.
---Samuel G. Bosserd Sr., age 86, of Marengo Township, a lifelong area farmer, died at Verona Foster Care on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004.
---Mr. Bosserd was born Aug. 10, 1918 in Marengo Township at the family farm house at H Drive South and 22 Mile Road to Clarence A. and Ina (Caines) Bosserd. He was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Marshall High School in 1936.
---Mr. Bosserd was married on June 2, 1940 in Battle Creek to Betty J. Patton. The couple first settled on a farm in Marshall Township. They farmed in that area until moving back to Marengo Township in 1949, where he operated a farm, including a dairy operation, for many years. He enjoyed all the different aspects of his farming career.
---He had served in the 1940's as the Marshall Township Treasurer, and also on the former Lockwood School Board. In Marengo Township, he served on the old Zoning Board, and the former South Brick School Board. He was a past member of the ASCS Committee in Calhoun County and also the Progressive Farmers. He was a member of Michigan Milk Producers and Calhoun County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed card parties with is wife Betty.
---Surviving are his wife, Betty; their daughter, Sharon (Blaine) VanSickle of Marshall; their sons, Samuel G. (Katie) Bosserd Jr. of Marshall and Tom Bosserd of Ypsilanti; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William J. and Charles J. Bosserd.
---Friends ma call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Sunday from 9AM to 9PM, where family will be present to receive visitors from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM. Services celebrating his life will be held on Monday at 1:30PM at the funeral home with Rev. Len Schoenherr of United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Marengo Township Firefights Association Scholarship Fund, or Jackson Oaklawn Hospice. Assistance with memorials available at Kempf Funeral Home.
