Cameron, Tex. Dec. 25 - Major W.M. McGregor died at the home of his son, Claud, Monday afternoon at 1:20 o'clock, aged 68 years. Major McGregor served with honor and distinction in the Confederate service throughout the war and at its close settled in Cameron and engaged in the practice of law up to two years ago when his failing health forced him to retire from public life. William Morrell McGregor began his education in a log cabin school, went to an academy in Fayetteville, Alabama, and finally entered East Alabama College at Auburn. . . . At the beginning of the war, he enlisted as a private in the Talladega Davis Blues, which became Company E of the 10th Alabama Infantry. . . . After the war, McGregor practiced law until 1869 when he moved to Milam County, Texas, where he founded the Milam County Messenger with his nephew. The following year [sic]* he moved to Rockdale and changed the paper's name to Rockdale Messenger. . . . he practiced law until stricken with paralysis.
