Esther was the sixth child of Lena (Loretta) Gunter and William Edward Curtis. She was born on a ridge between Sally Ann Creek and Wall Creek.

She attended school at Clearwater, riding horseback sometimes, but walking most of the time. After their house burned, they moved to Stites, where she attended school until the eighth grade. She then graduated from high school in Kooskia.

On Aug. 27, 1940, she married her first love, Henry (Hank) Allison Moore. Hank passed away due to a tragic logging accident on Aug. 27, 1947, their seventh wedding anniversary. Esther and the kids moved back to Grangeville to be close to family.

She later met David Arthur Cash at a dance, and they were then married a year later on April 20, 1950. They made their home in Grangeville and eventually settled near Gram Cash. They peeled their own logs and built their cabin in Happy Hollow.

They spent summers in the mountains, traveled to Alaska to work in a mining camp, vacationed in Hawaii and drove a long-haul truck together to every other state except Vermont. Dave preceded her in death in 2004.

She worked as a clerk, waitress, camp cook, co-owner of a television repair shop and drove a long-haul truck cross-country for eight years.

She enjoyed her good friends, her family, reading, flowers and looking at the wildlife and birds out her big picture window with her kitty, Socks, at her feet.

Esther was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry (Hank) Allison Moore, her second husband, David Arthur Cash; her parents and her siblings, Chester, Zelma, Viola, Lovell, Marvin, Vera, Paul, Zula, Loretta, Wilma and Sylvia.
