Sheryl Lynn Avery-Meints, age 69 of Grand Haven, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014. Sheryl was born October 7, 1945 to Samuel and Roberta (Kingston) Avery in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Grand Haven High School and continued her education at Michigan State University where she received her master’s degree. Sheryl retired from the State Department of Education as Director of Special Education. She moved back to the area following her retirement and worked beyond retirement at Ottawa Area Intermediate School District. Sheryl was an avid MSU and Red Wings fan. She enjoyed reading, traveling and giving of her time volunteering within the community. Sheryl is survived by her sons, Samuel (Kylie) Meints of Cape May, NJ, Nicholas Meints of Grand Haven; granddaughter, Aubrey Meints; sister, Margaret (Jon) Vogler of Lansing; brothers, Neil (Nancy) Disney of Birmingham, MI and Mark (Laurie) Disney of Gull Lake, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service for Sheryl will take place at a later date.
