Hugh H. Ault, Sr., 92, of Chattanooga died suddenly Friday, March 24, 2006 at Memorial Hospital.

He was born on April 2, 1913 in Cedar Bluff, AL to Robert F. and Ada Chandler Ault, who preceded him in death. He moved to Chattanooga in the early 30’s, met Evelyn Carmody and they married in 1939. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage before Evelyn preceded Hugh in death in 2003.

They moved to Sheffield, AL shortly after their marriage, where Hugh worked on the TVA Wilson Dam Project. He enlisted in the Army and served during WWII as an investigator for the office of the Provost Marshall. He was selected to serve in the Honor Guard for President Roosevelt’s funeral.

In 1946 Hugh returned to Chattanooga with his family and co-founded Ault Hardware, overseeing that business until the early 70’s when he started Ault Realty.

He was an avid outdoorsman and reader, showing interest in many different subjects. In his 50’s he decided to take up flying and obtained his pilot’s license. He piloted a plane for the last time on his 80th birthday.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Alhambra Shrine. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who was lovingly referred to by his family as “the Bank of East Ridge." His family always came first.

He will be missed by those who survive him, his son and daughter-in-law; two daughters and son-in-law; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Mary Katherine Gill, Signal Mountain; brother; niece; nephew, and longtime friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Alne Summerline officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5–8 p.m. on Monday at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
