Maria Ruth (Wilson) Hill was born on March 18, 1863 in Williamson County, Tennessee, the daughter of James Hazard Wilson III (1828–1890) and Virginia Pocahontas "Jennie" (Zollicoffer) Wilson (1837–1912).
She was married to Professor William Lafayette Hill (1857–1931), the son of Walter B Hill and Caroline (Ellis) Hill.
A resident of 1921 18th Avenue South, Nashville, she was 78 years old and a widow when she died of ovarian cancer on March 2, 1942 in Nashville. Burial was the next day in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
