The death of Mrs. Thomas W. Martin who had been sick with softening of brain since last midwinter and in critical condition for the last three weeks, occurred Sunday morning at 8:45 o'clock at her home, 500 West Jackson street. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the First Baptist church after which the remains were laid to rest in Oakland cemetery.
Mrs. Martin had resided in and near this city
for the greater p a r t of her life and was held in high esteem by many friends, and many relatives in this vicinity deeply mourn her death.
Amanda M. Dale, daughter of John and Charlotte Columbia Dale, natives of Kentucky, was born in Hendricks County, Indiana, April 20, l842, making age at death 63 years, 3 months and 28 days. About the year 1854 she came to Iowa with her parents who settled on a farm in this county, and on March 20, 1862 she was united in marriage with Thomas W. Martin, the devoted husband who survives her, together with their only daughter, Mrs. John Livingood.
In the family of Mr. and Mrs. John Dale, parents of the deceased, were six daughters and one son, only, two daughters, Mrs. America Wood and Mrs. James Holloway, residing near Rathbun are now living.
