Walhonding – Samuel Glenn Beckley, 78, passed away suddenly on Wednesday October 29, 2014.
He was born in Knox County on July 6, 1936 to Maurice and Edith (Busenburg) Beckley. He was dearly loved by his family. He loved to just spend time with them and doing things with the grandchildren like camping, and boating. He also liked to play cards and was an avid word find seeker. During his early years, he served in the US Army as an MP. He was a livestock and grain farmer, drove bus for the East Knox School District, and served as Butler Township Trustee for many years. He then went to work for Farmers Exchange, the Knox County Highway Department, and the State Highway Department as a supervisor for 16 years before retiring. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and Butler Grange.
Much of his time since retirement was spent with his grandchildren, attending sporting events of the great grandchildren, and spending the winters in Winter Haven, FL. One of his favorite times of the day was joining his friends, both in Ohio and Florida, at his regular breakfast spots for breakfast and coffee. He will always be remembered for all of the laughter he brought to his family, pulling pranks and joking around.
He is survived by his two children; Deborah Lang of New Concord, and Douglas (Donna) Beckley of Walhonding, four grandchildren; Cameron Lang (Kim Smith), Bethany (Brad) Dudley, Ashley (Timothy) Clutter, and Nicholas (Meagan) Beckley, eight great grandchildren; Dalton and Kobe Dudley, Emma, Sarah, and Leah Clutter, Carly Beckley, and Ethan and Elliott Morgan, sisters; Martha (Burl) Billman of Gambier, and Marie Coffing of Mount Vernon, 9 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Charlene V. (Mosholder) Beckley, a sister, Eileen Mills, a son-in-law, Larry Lang, and brothers –in-law; Lloyd Coffing and Don Mills. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday November 3, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Pastor Ben McKinstry will officiate. Burial will follow in Woods Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4-7 on Sunday.
