PROFFITT, Layton. Born in Manchester, KY on May 14, 1924. Passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Shawneespring of Harrison, OH. Layton was one of nine children of the late Albert and Lucinda Proffitt. In his early years he farmed with his family in Kentucky and later in Rushville, IN. A WWII veteran, Layton enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served in the Aleutian Islands and Pacific Theater until returning home in 1945. He worked for over 41 years as a bartender at the historic Cricket Tavern and Bar in downtown Cincinnati where he met his wife, Jacqueline, and made many life long friendships. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed working in his yard, playing golf and attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events.

He is survived by his six children, Joseph (Deborah) Proffitt, Cindy (Albert) Tenbrink, Patricia (Skip) Parnell, Kathy Fox, Terri (Jack) Cramerding and Michael Proffitt; his sisters, Verlia (John) Moore and Ida Curtis, and 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was proceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" Proffitt (nee Scott), brothers, Chester, Hobart, Robert and Denver, sisters, Maymie and Janet.

Visitation will be Wednesday at MEYER FUNERAL HOME, 5864 Bridgetown Road from 4:00PM until time of Funeral Service at 6:00PM. Interment on Thursday at St. Joseph New Cemetery at 11:00AM.
