She was born to Emil and Amanda Odefey Gropper, and grew up in Platte, SD. She graduated from High School in 1937, and married Warren F. Novak, on Sept 12, 1939, in Brule County. They farmed there for ten years, before moving to Rapid City, where she worked at Rapid City Regional Hospital, as a seamstress.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and Canyon Lake Senior Center. She enjoyed poetry, learning about the people and places of the Black Hills. She traveled to Alaska, Hawaii and Australia.
She worked very hard, and raised five children, was kind, and generous, with a good sense of humor.
She is survived by four daughters; a sister; a granddaughter; and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren, in 1980; her son, Terry Novak; a brother, Leslie; and two grandsons: Stephen Novak and Zachery Weeks.
