Robert was twenty-one and Rutha was about eighteen when they married.

The 1860 census of June 26, revealed they were living in Boyd County, Kentucky and their post office was Catlettsburg. The whole family was born in Kentucky. Robert and Rutha could not read or write. Household members: Robert Hensley (38), Rutha (34), Andrew J. (18), James H. (16), Rutha A. (13), William (10), Charles H. (8), George W. (5) and Mary F. (3). Robert's sister, Tabitha Mutters (20) lived three doors away.

Hall (21), grandson, Thomas Hall (8/12), Wm Hensley (19), Charles (17) and Ruth (70). Robert's brother, George W. (47) lived two doors away.

Robert died sometime after the 1870 census.
