Elaine Viola Cacci was born January 7, 1932 to Guy and Viola Curless in Bull Creek, California. Elaine passed away on September 1, 2013. She was 81 years old and a resident of Rio Dell, California.
Elaine grew up in Holmes Flat and attended Holmes Grammar School and graduated from Fortuna Union High School, class of 1950. After high school, Elaine worked at the Scotia Bank. She then married Paul in 1950. Together they owned and operated Cacci's Market for twenty-two years. For the last thirty years, Elaine helped her daughter, Sandra and son-in-law, Wally in their C C Market catering business.
Elaine was also a homemaker-enjoying her flowers and garden and taking care of Sandra's pets, Rosie, Ruby, and Pablo. Elaine was a wonderful mother. She spent her life devoted to her family. Whatever they needed, she was there to help them. When her daughter Cathy got cancer, she took great care of her every day until she passed away. Then, as a devoted wife, she took care of Paul when he was ill. Shortly after Paul passed away, Elaine got throat cancer. She had to have her voice box removed, but persevered and learned to talk without it. Special thanks go to her step-grandson Bill for taking her to her doctor in San Francisco and to special friends Rick and Lisa, who helped her with her throat patches, and to Linda for crocheting her special covers for her throat. At this time, Elaine lived with her daughter, Sandra and husband Wally. They were like best friends and did everything together. Elaine has been ill the last two years. She was able to live at home and was blessed to have her family and special caregivers Judy, Cindy, Doris, Brooke, Steffeni, and Paulina by her side. She was always grateful for their care.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Sandra and husband, Wally Close, her step-grandchildren, Bob (Tonetta) Close, Bill Close, and Patty Durbin, her step-great grandchildren Emma, Paulina, and Luisa Close, her brother Roy (Laurada) Curless, her brother-in-law Nick (Mary) Cacci, step brother-in-law Tom Pulaski, her nephew John Curless, her nieces Mary (Grant) Smith, Roberta (Bill) Beat, Marie Mederios, and Dean Bruner, Doug (Barbie) and Darrin Brunner. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, her daughter, Cathy, her brother, Robert, and her best friend Annie Barsanti.
Services will be held at Goble’s Fortuna Mortuary in Fortuna on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., Elaine will then be laid to rest next to her husband, Paul at Bull Creek Pioneer Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garey Barsanti, Darrin Bruner, Doug Bruner, Bill Close, Bob Close, Rick Parsells, and John Robey. Honorary pallbearers are Dean Bruner, Irvin Parlato, and Jim Gleaton.
