Services are pending at Parker Mortuary for Aldred E. "Gene" Flowers, 81, 1234 N. Western, who died Thursday at a Topeka hospital.
He was born July 15, 1891, at Ben Lowman, W. Va., and had been a Topeka resident since 1903, moving here from Haddam, in Washington County.
He was a mechanic for the Union Pacific Railroad 51 years before retiring Sept. 1, 1960. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers.
He was married to the former Effie Michael, Dec. 24, 1912, in Topeka. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Stone, 1302 N. Taylor, Mrs. Leona Thompson, McFarland, Mrs. Ida Roberts, 2107 N. Lincoln, and Mrs. Mina Stovall, 1147 Plass; one sister, Mrs. Marie Reedy, Salida, Calif.; two brothers, R. T. Flowers, 934 N. Clay, and Charles Flowers, 927 Ohio; 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Gene Flowers was born in Ben Lomond, WV. It is a small towm about 30 miles north of Hunington, WV on state highway WV-2. There is also a difference in birth years.
