Death From Paralysis
Mrs. P. D. Syphert, an Old Settler, Dies Suddenly

Mrs P. D. Syphert of 406 East Monroe street, mother of Harvey Poston, the young man who runs a cleaning and pressing establishment on North Jefferson street, suffered a stroke of paralysis yesterday afternoon while visiting her neighbor, Mrs. Gill and died in a few minutes at that home.
Mrs. Syphert suffered the stroke about 2:30 in the afternoon. She visited with Mrs. Doxee, a neighbor and then went back home. Later she went to the Gill residence evidently for a short chat. She had been in the house but a few minutes when she said that she felt a pain in her head, "Tell Harvey to come home," meaning her son who was at his shop at work, was all she said. Her son was immediately summoned and two physicians called but their efforts proved in vain and she died in a few minutes after the stroke. Mrs. Syphert has always been in very good health and has never before suffered from paralysis.
At the time of her death Mrs. Syphert was 69 years of age. She is one of the oldest settlers in Allen County, having lived in Humboldt and Iola for something like 40 years. For several years she has been making her home with her son at 406 East Monroe street. She leaves another son, Will, who now resides at Delphos, Kansas. She was a member of the Christian church and has always taken a great deal of interest in church work.
The funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow from the residence and will be in charge of Rev. N. F. Engle pastor of the Humboldt Christian church of which Mrs. Syphert was a member. The interment is to take place in the Iola cemetery.

Mrs Grace Poston, who was married to H C Poston, an Iola tailor, in Kansas City, after the mysterious disappearance of Mrs Grace Sullivan of Yates Center an hour before she was to be married to Poston, was arrested today charged with technical bigamy.
It developed that Mrs Poston, who was married under her maiden name of Grace Henning, really was the divorced wife of S S Barber. They had been divorced only two months, it is said, while the decree was not to become operative for six months after the divorce had been granted. It is believed that the wedding in Missouri would dispose of any objections to Mrs Barber's remarriage, but Barber came to Iola as soon as he heard of the wedding and caused the arrest of his ex-wife.

Poston was to have married Mrs Sullivan at Yates Center last month. When he arrived at the time set for the wedding he was told Mrs Sullivan had disappeared. Turning to Miss Henning, or Mrs Barber, who was to be one of the bridesmaids, Poston said; "Let's have a wedding anyhow, will you?"

Miss Henning was agreeable and the couple left immediately for Kansas City where they were married. They returned to Iola to live.
