Obituary - The Law School lost a loyal friend and supporter June 17th with the death Judge Rulon W. Clark. Judge Clark, 90, was a juvenile court judge for 26 years, a member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame, and a member of three Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints High Councils. The Rulon W. Clark Fellowship in Energy Law was established at the College of Law in his honor by the generosity of his family.

"Judge Clark will long be remembered at the College of Law for his wisdom, kindness and vitality." said Interim Dean Ned Spurgeon. "He was a remarkable man."

Judge Clark graduated from the University of Utah in 1920. He was a member of the University of Utah varsity basketball team which won the first Rocky Mountain Conference Championship. He was a captain of the team in 1916, when the University of Utah won the National AAU championship in Chicago. Shortly after graduation, Judge Clark headed the Physical and Health Education Department at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. He later received his law degree from La Salle Extension University in Chicago, passed the Bar examination in 1930, and was an active member of the Bar for many years.

In 1933, he was appointed Judge of the Juvenile Court in the 2nd District, taking charge over work in Salt Lake, Tooele, Summit and Daggett counties.

Judge Clark was a charter member of the National Council of Junvenile Court Judges and served on the Executive Committee as Secretary and as Vice President. He retired from the court in 1959 and continued private practice with his son, Calvin E. Clark ('56).

Judge Clark was a member of the lecture staff at the University of Utah, a member of the board of the Community Chest, a member of the Executive Council of the Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Governor's Council to coordinate Child Welfare Services in the state and a member of the Board of Managers of the State PTA.

He married Clara Caroline Gleave, with whom he had four children. A few years after her death in 1954, he married Virginia Freeze Barker.
