William M. "Bob" Self, 87, a life long Rushville resident, passed away at his home in Rushville October 24, 2014.

He was born November 14, 1926 in Rushville to the late J. Willard & Lydia (Crane) Self.

Bob was a WW2 US Navy veteran. He recieved 2 battle stars while serving his country. He married Lela Fancher on November 23, 1947 and she survives.

Bob was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Rushville. He was the Director of Buildings & Grounds for Rushville Schools for 37 years, retiring in 1990. Bob was a long time member of the Rushville American Legion Post #150, a member of the Rushville Utility Board for 17 years and lifetime member of the Battleship Crewman's Association with the USS Alabama.

He is survived by his wife, Lela, of Rushville, a son, Robert & wife Tina Self of Greenwood, daughters, Brenda & husband Bill Dean of Luzerne, MI, Terry & husband Mark VanNatta of Falmouth, Barbara & husband Richard Masters of Terre Haute, Joni & husband Gary Irwin of Indianapolis, Julie & husband Jeff Allen of Greenwood, a sister, Ann Shelton of Greenville, SC, 21 grandchilren and 35 great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 5 sisters and great grandson, Zachary Dean.

Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, October 28 at the First Baptist Church in Rushville. Rev. Jay Noll will preside.

Friends are welcome to visit from 3-7 PM Monday, October 27 at Moster Mortuary, Rushville.

Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery.

Military honors will be presented by the Rush County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rush County Cancer Fund or the Rush County Education Fund either through the Rush County Community Foundation.
