HaroldE. Beach, age 97, of Bloomingdale, passed away Monday, March 27, 2006, at Metron of Bloomingdale. Harold was born January 18, 1909 in Kalamazoo, the son of Elmer and Laura (Cargill) Beach and lived there in his early years. On February 28, 1931, he married Rosa Allen in South Bend, IN , and later moved to Bloomingdale, where Rosa preceded him in death on March 30, 1967. He was a tool and die maker at the Shakespeare Company, Kalmazoo; he was a chess club leader, and greatly enjoyed fishing and golfing. Harold was a former 4-H leader and had 2 horse shows on the Beach farm in Bloomingdale. After retiring, Harold traveled and met a wonderful lady who was to become his second wife, Mildred (Alexander) Strickler. They traveled together on a number of cruises and trips and kept a home in Gainesville, FL until her death in 1995. Surviving are 6 children, Laura (James) LaRoy of Zephyrhills, FL, Beverly Young of Brethren, MI, Karen (George) Lefferts of Plainwell, Shelby (Howard) Ashbrook of Bloomingdale, Dale (Greta) Beach of Girdler, KY, Judy (Arthur) Granado of Shelbyville; 3 step-children, David Strickler, Ann (Bruce) Hudson of Gainesville, FL, Paul (Debbie) Strickler of Isle of Palms, SC; 15 grandchildren, Larry Tassell, Pat (Arthur) Moelaart, Kenny (Laura) Tassell, Joan (Brent) Henderson, Janet (Steve) Kline, Karen Springer, Alan Tassell, Vicky Pearson, Rosalie (Jon) Anderson, Kathleen (Jay) Weessies, Brian (Dorothea) Williams, Laura (Shannon) Foster, Kristy (William) Scott, Brant Beach, Scott (Stacie) Maness; many great grandchildren; special friends Mrs. Ida (Meachum) Rushmore of Portage, and Richard Clark of Bloomingdale; and many other friends and neighbors in Michigan and Florida. According to his wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, at the BLOOMINGDALE CHAPEL, D. L. Miller Funeral Home www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com with Pastor Sheila F. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Bloomingdale Township.
