DEATH OF “FATHER OF PADEN” REMOVES OKLAHOMA PIONEER
Paden, June 17, - (Special) – Always a leader in the town’s activities and the founder of many of its undertakings, Albert Gallitan Rogers, who died at his home in Paden, Okfuskee county, recently, has gone down in the history of the town as the “Father of Paden.”
As the leading citizen of Paden, Rogers established the electric light and ice plant, built the only theater and aided in extending telephone and mail service to outlying districts. It was through his efforts largely that the Paden high school was started and a modern building erected.
Rogers came to Paden in 1906 after marrying a second time, his first wife having died. He bought a large tract of land near Paden, which he later named “Seven Gables Farm.” It was this farm which produced the famous oil well known as Rogers well No. 1 or Old Mystery.
Rogers came to Oklahoma in the Pioneer days, settling at what now is Prague, Lincoln county. He was the first man to establish an office in that town, moving the building there on wheels. He engaged in the banking and land business.
A native of Tennessee, Rogers moved with his parents at an early age to Lathrop, Mo. He served through the civil war under his father, Col. Hugh L. W. Rogers. After his discharge he acted as lieutenant under Governor Gambol of Missouri and assisted in the organization of that state’s rifle troops.
He was married March 21, 1868, to Virginia Estes, of Plattsburg, Mo., and from this union was born four daughters and two sons, five of whom are now living. This wife died October 19, 1886. He was married again January 30, 1906, to Mrs. Lillie C. Rogers, a widow bearing the same name. – The Daily Oklahoman.
Mr. Rogers was the father of Mrs. Len C. Baldwin, of Marietta.
