Mrs. Alva Mary Mathews Dies; Burial in Mt. V.
Mrs. Alva Mary Mathews of St. Petersburg, Fla., a former resident of Mt. Vernon died Tuesday in St. Petersburg. She was 86 years, 11 months and nine days of age. Mrs. Mathews was the widow of Thomas J. Mathews, a former Mt. Vernon hardware merchant and brother-in-law of former Governor L. L. Emmerson. Mrs, Mathews was Past Matron of Chapter 233, Eastern Star, and Past High Priestess of White Shrine Chapter 66. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday in Oakwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call after noon Friday. Mrs. Mathews was born November 5, 1882 in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was married to Thomas J. Mathews, who preceded her in death in March, 1951. She is survived by nephews and nieces.
