Man Who Laid First Pavement in Topeka Died Here Yesterday

Abel Fulford, 66 years old, a former well known contractor in Topeka, died yesterday morning at one of the local hospitals following a severe illness of over a month from numerous organic troubles.

The first pavement ever laid in Topeka was under the supervision of Mr. Fulford. During the early days he was prominent in contracting work, and was also active in local politics.

Mr. Fulford engaged in city and railroad grading, at at one time traveled through the country with a circus. His partner in this business venture was Mack Lytle.

His wife died about a year ago, and since that time he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. C. Shadbolt, who resides east of the city, until illness compelled him to go to the hospital. The funeral will be held from Shellabarger's chapel at 10 o'clock this morning. Interment will take place in Topeka cemetery.
