Born Jan. 5, 1918, in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late John A. and Mary S. Byers Dice.
Mr. Dice was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, L.R. Rife Bible Class, church board, church choir, Boy Scout committee and the church bowling team.
A 1937 graduate of Chambersburg High School, he was a member of Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce's Merchant's Committee.
In his early life, he worked for his father.
"I can still remember being 10 years old, patching tires," he said in a January 1990 article in Public Opinion.
He kept the family business going along with his sister, Janet, after his father sold it in 1948. After buying Janet's half of the business, he moved Dice's Tire Shop from 124 S. Main St. to 1421 Lincoln Way East in January 1967.
Mr. Dice enjoyed serving customers, from whom he had learned much.
"You can get an education in a tire shop the same as you can in college," he said.
He retired in January, after 43 years in the business.
Surviving are his wife, Harriett Over Dice; a son, John A. II, of Chambersburg; a daughter, Donna (Mrs. Floyd "Ted") Hutzell of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet L. of Caledonia.
Burial will be Monday in Norland Cemetery.
