Allen Richard Prosch, 73, of Nicollet died Friday, October 17, 2014 at his son’s home in Rockford after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Pastor Jon Gehrls will officiate, and burial will be in the Zion Cemetery in rural Nicollet following the service.
Visitation will be from 9:00-11:30 Saturday morning at the funeral home in New Ulm.
Allen is survived by his wife Betty Prosch of Rockford; his sons, Robert (Kelly) Prosch of Minnetonka, Ronald (Diane) Prosch of Rockford; grandchildren, Michael, Bailey, and Erin; sister Harriet (Eldred) Redman of Winthrop; brother John (Donna) Prosch of Rochester; brother-in-law La Vern Lucas of Courtland; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Rita, and his sister Clarissa “Cindy” Lucas.
Allen was born February 8, 1941 in Nicollet to Clarence and Ruby (Esping) Prosch. He graduated from Nicollet High School in 1959 and later in life graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in Marketing and Management. After high school, Allen served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1966. He later married Betty Korpela on April 11, 1965 in Cokato at the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church. He started work in Glencoe, but later moved to the cities where he worked for Grumman Steel for a number of years. After his time with Grumman Steel he sold time share properties for the newly established Breezy Point Resort near Brainerd. He most recently worked in insurance sales for the Independent Order of Foresters where he also spent the past 28 years volunteering his services. Allen will forever be remembered for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycling, and riding ATVs with friends and family. He was also known as quite the handyman. There weren’t too many things in life he could not fix. His favorite thing in life though was any time he got to spend with his family. He was a member of the Brainerd American Legion, a High Court Counselor for the Independent Order of Foresters, and a past member of the Covenant Church in Crystal and Brainerd.
