Born in Fairland, PA on October 14, 1936, he was the son of the late Herbert T., Sr. and Catherine M. Betz Batz. He was a retired Fire Fighter after 27 years of service at Harrisburg International Airport. He was also employed for 20 years with HERCO.
Jim was a 50 year Volunteer Fire Fighter after joining the Annville Rescue Fire Company in 1951. He served in the US Army and was a 1955 graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School. He was a life member of the Lebanon County Fireman’s Association, Lebanon County Fire Chief’s Association, Union Steam Fire Engine and Hose Company #1, and the Annville Union Hose Fire Company where he served as Fire Chief for 8 ½ years and Trustee for 6 years.
Surviving are three daughters Mary C. Mossburg of Baltimore, MD, Christine M. Batz of Lebanon, Tammy L. Batz of Annville, grandchildren Kelly Sue, Jessie, Kiet, Sean, Ronnie, James, Christie, great grandchildren Riana, Taion, Zoey, Zander, Haley, Zachary, Logan, Kalen, and seven brothers Jack Batz of Lititz, Leo Batz of Cleona, Joseph Batz of Rhode Island, William Batz of Florida, Tom Batz of NJ, Dave Batz of Massachusettes, and Cyril Batz of Ohio. He was preceded in death by brothers Bernie, Herbert, Robert, Warren, Richard, and Paul Batz.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 on Thursday October 23, 2014 at the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main Street, Annville. Inurnment will be in Mt. Annville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 in his memory.
