Dorothy Lee (Gibson) Knoles, 95, of Nassau Bay, Texas, passed away Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at her home in Nassau Bay.

Dorothy Lee Gibson was born Jan. 21, 1919, to Forest and Daisy Gibson in Shawnee.

She married Jake Willard Knoles on Jan. 8, 1941, in Chandler, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 1996.

Shortly after their marriage Jake was drafted. Dorothy worked packing parachutes at Tinker Air Force Base during the war; she continued working there until 1951, then moved to California, where Jake worked at McClellan Air Force Base. When he retired they moved back to Shawnee where Dorothy enjoyed decorating her home, cooking, and entertaining family and friends. Her passion was gardening. She designed and planted everything herself. Her home and garden was a showplace; she received awards for the garden of the month and was featured in The Shawnee News-Star. At the age of 88 years she moved to Houston, Texas, to be close to her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jake; her son, Jimmy Witt; son-in-law, Robert Gallagher; and her parents.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Maurita Gallagher, of Nassau Bay, Texas, and Beverly and Jerry Carson, of Citrus Heights, California; son, Ron Knoles, of Nevada; and daughter-in-law, Diane Gray of California; other extended family and friends.

The family has designated the American Cancer Society as appropriate for memorials in lieu of flowers.
