Hays resident Katherine “Katie” Dinges, 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, at St. John Rest Home, Victoria.

She was born Aug. 13, 1895 in Munjor, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Younger) Engel.

She married Peter Dinges May 29, 1917 at Schoenchen; he died Dec. 5, 1955.

Survivors include six sons, Victor, Tigard, Ore., Julius and Alvin, both of Hays, Henry, Woodburn, Ore., Gilbert and James, both of Schoenchen; two daughters, Hilda Staab, Portland, Ore., and Mary Binder, Hays; a sister, Anna Rupp, Salem, Ore.; 39 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Earl Meyer, OFM Cap., officiating; burial in the church cemetery. A parish wake services will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Brock’s North Hill Chapel. Friends may visit from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Brock’s.

The family suggests contributions to the Father Raphael Engel Endowment Foundation.
