Kenneth Kinney, 91, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, teacher, mentor and coach, passed away October 9, 2014.

Ken was born on July 11, 1923 in Terre Haute, IN to the late Harry and Laura Kinney.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where his battalion proudly contributed to MacArthur's liberation of the Philippines.

Following his service, he attended Indiana State University, earning a Masters degree in art education.

He was especially proud of his accomplishments as a track athlete, setting a record in the 440-yard dash that stood for decades.

Ken married the love of his life, the late Dorothy Adolfs Kinney, in 1946, and began a rewarding career in teaching, first in Robinson, IL, then at Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox, ending his career as an art and photography teacher and respected track coach at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

He was a guiding light to his students, many of whom still reflect fondly on his personable and encouraging teaching style.

After retirement, Ken worked as a freelance photographer for local newspapers.

Ever community-minded, he was involved in the Elks Club, American Legion, Junior Achievement, and also served as a Sunday school superintendent and head of the new-building committee for the New Lenox Methodist Church.

Ken was an avid golfer, traveler, dog lover, and adored his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Friend to many, with a vibrant personality and a quick wit, Ken/Coach/KK will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his daughter Kathy Lamb (Robert), son Keith Kinney (Judy), granddaughters Sarah and Kayla, great-grandchildren Adelyn, Makenna and Paxton and many nieces and nephews.
