Lorraine Kodet was born on 27 November 1924 on the family farm near Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota, to Frank and Katherine (Zetah) Kodet. On 09 February 1943, Lorraine married Bernard Bartes at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn. Bernard was the son of John Charles and Rose M. Malecek Bartes.

Lorraine and Bernard lived and farmed near Bechyn until 1959 when they moved to Olivia, Minnesota. They were blessed with five children, Beverly, LaVonne, Larry, Dan and Greg.

After they moved to Olivia, Lorraine worked at the Clock Café, Renville County Hospital, and the Olivia Public School. She retired in 1987. Lorraine was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the CCW. Lorraine's first love was raising her five children and spending time with her seven grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking poppy seed cake, dancing to old time music, playing cards, playing piano by ear, and having coffee with her friends.

Lorraine Kodet Bartes died at the age of 86, on Friday morning, 11 February 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota. She had lived there for seven years prior to her death.

Lorraine was survived by her five children, Beverly (Richard) Dummer of Blue Earth, LaVonne (Robert) Rinke of Clinton, Larry Bartes of Shakopee, Dan Bartes of Olivia, and Greg (Nancy) Bartes of Richmond; seven grandchildren: Michele (Scott) Saunders, Melinda (Paul) Bogle, Kelly (Matt) Morris, Brian (Amy) Bartes, Michael (Van) Bartes, Jenna (Jack) Herrmann, and Justin (Brigitte) Bartes; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Jennifer Bogle, Evan and Lauren Saunders, Brady Bartes, Reagan and Kennedy Morris, Tuyet “Ella” Bartes, Kyli Mann and Kelsi Herrmann; sister, Sally Ahrens of Windom, and several nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard, in 2005; brothers, Leonard Kodet, Clarence Kodet, and Gordon Kodet; and sisters, Marietta Jansen, Irene Ruhland, Gladys Wohnoutka, and Marcella Cronin.

Visitation for Lorraine was on Wednesday, 16 February, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia, with Reverend Paul van de Crommert as celebrant. Burial followed in the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota.
