Francis was the son of John Timothy Murphy and Mary Anne Donahue. A 7-year resident of Reno, he died in a local hospital at the age of 57. He was employed as an iron worker, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Catholic Church.
Survivors included his wife, Edna; eight children, Warren, Joan, Ruth, Danny, Angela, Roy, Lee and Larry, all of Wisconsin; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Hampel of California and Mrs. Pearl Germore of Illinois; and two brothers, John F. Murphy of Wisconsin and Patrick Murphy of California.
