Cecilia M. Welch, age 100, of Stevens Point, died November 25, 2010 at the Portage County Health Care. She was born April 17, 2010 to the late John & Josephine Winkler in Plainfield, WI. Cecilia attended the local grade school and high school. She attended the Normal School (UWSP) to become a schoolroom teacher and in 1941 returned to school to extend her teaching degree. Cecilia also attended the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1946. Cecilia taught in the Beaver Dam rural schools before returning to the Stevens Point area. She taught at the Campus School and other local schools for over 37 years. She married Henry Welch in 1956 in Plainfield, WI. Cecilia was known for her giving nature and her love for children. She enjoyed teaching 2nd and 7th grades. Cecilia also enjoyed volunteering for community affairs. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Stevens Point Retired Teacher Association. Survivors include nephew, John (Linda) Winkler of Melbourne, KY; great niece, Sarah (Peter) Petoniak of Green Bay and her children Jake, Henry & Georgia; great nephew, David August Winkler of Appleton; and niece, Carolynn DenDekker of the Washington DC area; She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; 1 sister and five brothers. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Boston Funeral Home with Rev. John Potaczek officiating. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow the service in St Stephen Catholic Cemetery.
