Ernest Barber was the oldest of three children born to Elizabeth Jane Wells and Norman Clark Barber. His birth record was destroyed by fire in South Windsor. Although his cemetery stone gives his birth date as 1872, family records indicate his year of birth as 1867. Ernest was married three times but is buried next to his first wife, Lilla May Anderson. They had just one daughter together, Ernestine.
