F. William Keiner, 76, of 11 North 12th Street, retired school teacher, financial house officer and civic leader, died at 6:45 o'clock Sunday morning at Hillcrest Nursing Home, 420 Mascoutah Avenue, following an extended illness.

Mr. Keiner was a school teacher by profession and served in the elementary systems in this area for 28 years. He taught at St. Rose, Ill., and New Athens before entering the Belleville Grade School System. He retired after serving several years as intermediate supervisor. He was a former member of the Grade School Board of Education.

He was one of the organizers of the West Side Savings and Loan Association and served as secretary treasurer of the company for 29 years prior to his retirement a few years ago. He also was one of the organizers and the first cashier of the Belleville National Bank.

Mr. Keiner served as secretary of the West Side Improvement Association from the time of its organization until it disbanded during World War II. He was a former secretary of Belleville Lodge, Modern Woodmen of America and a past secretary treasurer of the Belleville Insurance Board. He held membership in Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Modern Woodmen and Liederkranz Society at the time of his death.

The deceased was born in New Memphis, Ill. August 4, 1877, and was a son of the late William and Catherine Keiner, nee Ullrich. He married Ida L. Sahlender in Belleville August 31, 1904. Mrs. Keiner died last March 23.

Funeral at 10 a.m. Thursday from Gundlach and Company Funeral Home to Walnut Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Alfred F. Schroeder, pastor of Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church, will officiate.
