Katie Ruth Garrett Blitch, age 94 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at her home. She was born to the late William and Katie Mae (Andrews) Garrett on July 26, 1920 in Greenville, FL. She is the widow to the late Rayford (Tite) Blitch of Quincy.

Ruthie lived most of her life in Tallahassee, FL, where she graduated from Leon High School and Florida State College for Women. She retired from the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. Her most enjoyable years were the years that she worked in the Florida Legislator.

Ruthie had a passion for the history of area around Tallahassee, FL and was writing a book about the history when she became ill.

For the past ten years, Ruthie has lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Bonnie Blitch, Ruthie loved their home in Hiawassee, GA but always looked forward to going back to her wonderful Tallahassee.

Ruthie has been called a “southern lady” by many people that she came in contact with. She always made visitors welcome to her home and enjoyed their conversations. She was asked once what gave her the most leisure in her life and she quickly replied, “my children” Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 11:00AM at Centanary United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, FL.
