Henry Seery

The entire Cascade community sincerely mourns the passing of a former well known and influential resident, Henry P. Seery, who died at his home in Waterloo last Thursday, the 2nd of March, at 3:40 o'clock p.m., following an illness.

Funeral services were held from the Devaney Funeral home to St. Martin's church, Cascade. Saturday, March 4th, with Rev. M. J. Farrelly pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Cascade Catholic cemetery.

Pall bearers were Ben Fagan, Leo Skahill, John Ramm, Henry Devlin, Wm. Drummond and John McLees.

Henry Seery was born at Cascade on March 11, 1870. On October 25, 1892 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth McDermott, and to this union were born five sons and three daughters, who survive with Mrs. Seery. They are Lester H. of LaPorte City, Iowa; Sylvan of Los Angeles, Calif., Frank W. of Moline, Ill., Ralph E., Mel D., Mrs. Ray Hoffmann, Mrs. Elmer Smith and Mrs. Fred Amfohr of Waterloo, Iowa. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Chas. McLees and two brothers, Tom Seery of Cascade and John of Ryan.

For some time the Seerys were engaged in farming in this community, and after disposing of the farming interests they moved to Cascade where Mr. Seery conducted a tavern and had other interests.

A scion of old Pioneer stock, he reared and educated a large family, all of whom are a credit to the communities in which they live. Many old time friends sincerely regret his passing and extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.Those attending the funeral from a distance included Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Amfohr of Jesup, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Seery and daughter of Coggon, Iowa, John Seery of Manchester, Mazie Seery of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Seery, Gilbert McDermott of Waterloo, Mrs. Henry Seery; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Seery and Marvin; Mr. and Mrs. Mel Seery, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hoffmann; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Amfohr, all of Waterloo, and Lester H. Seery, of LaPorte City.
