She was born January 25, 1918 in Wild Peach, Texas to Alonzo and Mattie (Delp) Gilliam. She was born during WWII, she survived the 1932 storm which blew away her childhood home in Wild Peach; she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweeny and a proud resident of Sweeny since 1948; she loved the town and the county and never wanted to go or live anywhere else. She was an avid reader and a member of the Rebecca Lodge in West Columbia.
