Margaret Scott Butler, age 94, of Tullahoma, TN (and lately of Roswell, GA) passed away Thursday, Oct 9, 2014 at North Fulton Hospital in Alpharetta, GA. She was retired from teaching English at Motlow State Community College, and was a member of Cedar Lane Church of Christ.
She was born May 29, 1920 in Culleoka, TN, the daughter of the late Allen Burnley Scott and the late Bessie Matthews Scott. After her marriage to the late Warren Eugene Butler, she lived in Jacksonville, FL, Atlanta, GA, and Miami, FL. After the untimely death of her husband in Miami, she moved to Murfreesboro, TN to complete a BA and MA in English at Middle Tennessee State University. In September, 1971 she started teaching English at Motlow State Community College, and worked on her PhD from Indiana University of Pennsylvania during the summers. She earned her PhD in 1980, and after 20 years of teaching, retired in June of 1991.
Survivors include one son, two grandsons, three great granddaughters, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 daughter: Peggy B. Sturgill, and 2 brothers: James C. Scott and Donald M. Scott. Mrs. Butler loved her family, and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at 11 am on Tuesday, October 14 at Cedar Lane Church of Christ. Burial to follow in Wilkes Cemetery, Culleoka, Tn.
