MARQUETTE, MI. - Daniel James Olson, age 19, of 8 Grandview Circle, Marquette, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at his home in Marquette, following a long battle with anxiety and depression.
Daniel was born August 22, 1992 in Marquette the son of Jeffrey and Sally (Simula) Olson. Daniel attended the Marquette Public Schools through the 8th grade and was active in many youth sporting programs. His high school years were spent at the Ishpeming High School, where Daniel was a standout student athlete. He quarterbacked the Ishpeming High School football team to the State Finals in 2010, and was named to the Detroit Free Press All-State football team that same year. Daniel also participated in basketball and track while at Ishpeming High School. He had graduated from IHS in 2011. This past year Daniel attended St. Norbert's College in DePere, WI, where he had been a member of the football team.
Daniel was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette. He had worked for Vector Inc., and did building projects with his father in the summer months. His plans included coaching football at IHS this fall. He loved his family and all the support they showed for him.
Survivors include his parents Jeff & Sally Olson of Marquette, 2 sisters Taylor and Jaime Olson and a brother Isaac Olson all of Marquette, his maternal grandparents Don & Arlene Simula of Baraga, his paternal grandparents Sigward and Phyllis Olson of Marquette, his godparents Calvin and Mary Tollefson of Seymour, WI and Darryl & Tammy Olson of Ft. Wayne, IN, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Daniel was loved by his second family Jim & Sarah Martin and his other brothers Cody and Clint Martin of Marquette.
