ST. MARYS -- Rosella Johnson Thornton, 83, died Aug. 12 at St. Marys Convalescent Center. She was born in Pierce County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Patterson and was a former resident of Pierce County Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her first husband, W.L. Strickland, and her second husband, J.L. Reeves.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Julian Thornton of Jesup; six stepdaughters, Lillie D. Skinner of Blackshear, Ellen Howard of St. Marys, Bandilla Griffin of Hawthorne, Fla., Mary Jean Taylor and Bertie Lou Sikes, both of Hilliard, Fla., and Jackie Williford of Jesup; 12 stepsons, I.Q. Strickland of Atlanta, W.O. and J.T. Strickland, both of Jacksonville, Fla., David Earl Strickland of St. Marys, Wiley Reeves of Blackshear, Marvin and J.L. Reeves, both of Hilliard, Carroll, Billy and DeWayne Thornton, all of Screven, Glynn Thornton of Atlanta and Farris Thornton of Offerman; a sister, Ina Hickox of Offerman; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Saturday at Dixon-Bowen-Taylor Funeral Home, burial in Shiloh Cemetery.
