Gary Hale Belcher, 67, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at a local hospital hospice. Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Monday in Greenwood Chapel. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to The First Tee of Fort Worth, 1900 Rockwood Park Drive N., Fort Worth, Texas 76114, or Humane Society of North Texas, 1840 East Lancaster, Fort Worth, Texas 76103.

Honorary pallbearers: Timothy Foley Bull, William DuPre Connally, George Thomas Goolsby, Douglas Madison Kincaid, David Brooks Lobingier, Michael James McMahon, Samuel Hale Moore, Hugh Walter Savage, William Walker Wood and George Wragg.

Gary was born Nov. 9, 1946, in Fort Worth to Bettye Lois Head Belcher and Alwyn Elbert Belcher. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth. During his childhood, Gary attended Trinity Episcopal Church. He attended Westcliff Elementary, McLean Middle School, and Paschal High School, graduating in May 1965. At Paschal, Gary was a member of Posse Social Club. He began his college freshman year at the University of Arkansas where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He transferred to TCU in January 1966 where he continued his pledgeship and was initiated into Texas Beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was a well-respected member and served as an officer. His peers nominated him to attend SAE Leadership School in Evanston, Ill., which he completed. Gary earned a bachelor of business administration degree from TCU in May 1969. Upon graduation, Belcher enlisted in the Texas National Guard. He served his Country in the Guard for six years receiving an honorable discharge in 1976. In January 1972, Gary married Nancy Lynn Callier. They were married 23 years and were members of All Saints Episcopal Church. Gary was a "scratch" golfer. He enjoyed playing golf at just about every local course in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He also enjoyed teaching and coaching golf. He was Rivercrest Country Club Men's Club Champion in 1994 and Men's Senior Runner- up in 1996. Gary's golf capabilities were known far and wide. He will be remembered by many golfing buddies who were witness to his many holes-in-one and eagles. Gary loved dogs and cats-in fact, all animals. It was always said, "Oh, to be a dog or cat adopted or found by Gary Belcher, how lucky one could be!" Belcher family favorites a collie, Buddy, and a black lab, Sugar, were Gary's most beloved pets. His love for animals carried over to his love for the outdoors; Gary enjoyed and was passionate about hunting and fishing. He got more joy out of just sitting in a boat on the water and just enjoying Mother Nature, although he did love a good fight with a largemouth bass. He was more of a steward of the land and animals rather than a real hunter. Belcher was a founding member of the Fort Worth Chapter of Ducks Unlimited as well as a member of Steeplechase Club from 1970-1994. Gary had a varied professional career. After TCU graduation and two years of law school at the University of Houston, Gary began working in the fire and casualty insurance business in 1971 with his father, Al Belcher. In the mid-70s, he began a career with Clyde Campbell's Mens' Clothing. He caught the real estate bug in the late '70s and had a 20-year career in residential and commercial real estate sales and development. In the mid-90s, Gary got involved in the specialty advertising business. In all walks of his life, Gary was a mild-mannered, gentle, soft-spoken, well-groomed, professional businessman. Gary adored his two children, Robert and Suzanne. He could frequently be seen at Kelly Field watching Robert play Little League or at a swim meet cheering on Suzanne in the pool. He was often involved in his children's teams, becoming coach or assistant coach. He was involved in Indian Princesses with Suzanne and Indian Guides and Boy Scouts with Robert, other opportunities to go camping and enjoy the great outdoors. Gary was an avid music lover. He enjoyed all types of music from classical to rock to C&W. Gary, like his father, Al Belcher, loved to cook. His smoked ribs, barbecue chicken, and fajitas were the best. A wonderful friend and father, Gary will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors: Son, Robert Hale Belcher of Dallas; daughter, Suzanne Callier Belcher of Denver, Colo.; sister, Leigh Ann Belcher Connally and husband, William Dupre Connally; their children, William D. Connally Jr., all of Fort Worth; Leigh Carlisle Connally of Washington, D.C.; brother, Robert Alwyn Belcher; nephews, Robert Alwyn "Cory" Belcher Jr. of Littleton, Colo., and Kevin Christopher Belcher of Leadville, Colo.
