Laverne Roden, 78, of Kennett, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Born June 3, 1923, in Sumach MO, daughter of the late Marvin and Effie McClain Waddell, she was a member of Glass Memorial Baptist Church in Hayti, Mo.

On June 28, 1941, in Kennett, she married Eddie Burl Roden, who survives of the home. Survivors also include two sons, Conn Burl Roden, of Pacific MO and Thomas Roden of Memphis TN; one sister, Ruby Venable, of Kennett; three grandchildren, Shane Conley Roden, Sheena Marie Roden, and Stacey Christine Robinson, and one great-grandchild, Payton Leigh Robinson of Dallas TX.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Revs. Tim Abanathy and Troy Alley officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett MO.

Pallbearers were Buford Simpson, Harlan Loafman, Kevin Blansett, Jeff Huskey, Malcolm Babb and Jeff Pirtle. Memorials may be made to the Glass Memorial Baptist Church, Music Department, in Hayti MO.
