A. L. BECKLEY 83 COU'TERVILLE DIED SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Prominent Farmer and Stock Raiser for Many Years

Funeral services for Abraham Lincoln Beckley, 83, lifelong resident of the countryside west of Coulterville, were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the United Presbyterian Church there with interment in Coulterville cemetery. Officiating at the service were Rev. A. T. Moore, St. Louis, Rev. J. A. Harper, Pinckneyville and Rev. Paul Warren Duncan, Coulterville. The services were largely attended attesting to the high esteem in which the deceased had long been held in his home community.

Casket bearers were William Campbell, Harold Boyd, R. M. Neill, Robert Blair, Lester Fullerton and Henry Knecht.

Mr. Beckley passed away at his home shortly before five o'clock Sunday afternoon. He had been in failing health the past few years and his death did not come unexpectedly to relatives and intimate friends familiar with his condition.

Mr. Beckley was born in the community where he died November 1, 1861 and had lived 83 years, 8 months and 8 days. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Eli Beckley, pioneer Coulterville residents. Mr. Beckley had successfully devoted his entire life to farming and stock raising.

Mr. Beckley and his devoted companion of many years, Mrs. Jeannette Campbell Beckley, happily observed their golden wedding anniversary at their Coulterville home on November 8, 1944. He gave up active farm work several years back but he and Mrs. Beckley remained in the rural home they had occupied for more than 40 years.

The church affiliation of the deceased was with the United Presbyterian of Coulterville where he and members of his family have worshipped for many years. He had served as church trustee and in other official capacities and his passing is mourned by relatives and a legion of friends in Randolph and adjoining counties where he was know [sic] as farmer and citizen of high integrity.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jeannette Campbell Beckley, three sons, Russell, Wilmer and Dwight, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Brown of Oakdale, and Mrs. Lulu Merrill of Collins, Miss., six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

One of the sons, Wilmer, and Mrs. Beckley reside in Perry county just west of Swanwick. He is Republican central committeeman from that precinct.
