Gary O. Babcoke, 65, was pronounced dead on arrival at Duke Hospital in Peru, Indiana at 6:05 pm on February 7, 1973 from an apparent heart attack. His cause of death listed on his death certificate was coronary thrombosis and atherosclerotic heart disease. He was the son of Lydia Burdine Babcoke and Harry Babcoke. His mother died in childbirth. He had four siblings: Florence, Robert Raymond Virgil, and Aline.

Surviving are one son Guy, Jr., Wellington, Colorado; two brothers, Robert, Peru; and Raymond, Marcellus, Michigan; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Mills, Edwardsburg, Michigan; and Mrs. Eileen Lamb, Winona Michigan; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


He was employed in the maintenance department of the Stokley Canning Company. He was previously married to his ex, Lola Townsend Banks who died eight days after his death due to a stroke.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Flowers-Leedy funeral home. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Friday. He was buried on February 10, 1973 at Mount Hope Cemetery.
