Ed Bernard, 80, of 2915 Henry St., died Tuesday at 3:45 a.m. in Citizens General Hospital. Funeral services will be at Coker-Mathews-Peters chapel at 1 p.m. Thursday withs Rev. Chief Warden and Rev. Bobby bush (sic) officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park.'

He was born March 13, 1894 in Sulphur Springs, the son of Charles Weldon and Nancy Virginia Stokes Bernard. He married Lela Cantrell on Nov. 21, 1923, in Greenville.

Bernard was a World War I veteran and a member of the 56th Artillery Band. He was a retired band director of Greenville High School and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Williams Bible Class, a 52 year member of Masonic Lodge, and a member of Musicians Union. Mr. Bernard was the composer of the Greenville High School song.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Nina Omohundro of Greenville; one nephew, Charles Logan Myers of Abilene; two nieces, Mrs. Frank Argenbright of Sulphur Springs and Mrs. Keith Hanna of Austin. His wife Nancy preceded him in death on May 6, 1973.

Pallbearers will be Mayo Rabb, Arnold Shumate, Murray Rogers, Ellington Bush, George Betts, and Fred Meadows. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Williams Bible Class and former Greenville High School Band members.
