Missing Airman Reported Killed

HEREFORD, April 17 (Spl.) - Second Lt. Clifford H. Vaughn, son of Mrs. W.A. Vaughn, co-pilot on a Liberator, has been listed as killed over Germany last Nov. 30. He previously was reported missing on that date.

He had received the Air Medal with one cluster and had been recommended for a second cluster.

An outstanding high school student and athlete, he was co-captain of the Hereford football team in 1941. He attended North Texas Agricultural College in 1942-1943.

Four brothers are in service. They are Pfc. Carlos A. Vaughn, Camp Edwards, Mass.; Pfc. Charley R. Vaughn, with the 7th Army in Germany; Maj. Jasper Vaughn, and Corp. Frank D. Vaughn in the Philippines.

Medal Awarded Posthumously to Lt. Clifford Vaughn of Hereford

HEREFORD, May 18 (Special) - Mrs. W.A. Vaughn of Hereford received this week the Purple Heart awarded posthumously to her son, Lt. Clifford Vaughan [sic], who was killed in action over Germany Nov. 30, 1944. Lieutenant Vaughn was a regular co-pilot on a B-24 Liberator, but at the time he was shot down, he was acting as an observer with a new crew. He had completed 21 missions.

Lieutenant Vaughn graduated from Hereford High School and attended North Texas Agricultural College before entering the service.
