Leland Anderson, restauranteur, dies at 77
Leland V. “Andy” Anderson, 77, of 4150 Linden Ave., retired restaurant owner-market operator and a resident of Long Beach for 58 years, died Saturday at memorial Hospital Medical Center of Long Beach after a brief illness.
Mr. Anderson was born in Louisburg, MO., and came to Long Beach from Glendale, Ariz., in 1918.
He formed a partnership here with Francis Urbine, and together they operated a meat market at Pine Avenue and Seventh street until 1949. In 1951 they opened the (missing) *taurant at Willow Street and Pacific Avenue. In 1962, when the site was taken over by the Department of Motor Vehicles, they moved the restaurant to 8567 Artesia Blvd., Bellflower, where they remained until 1972, when they both retired.
Mr. Anderson was a 55-year member of Long Beach Elks Lodge 888. He attended the Baptist Church.
He took an active part in thoroughbred racing and, together with Urbine, operated a modest racing stable for over 35 years. Their horses were seen at major tracks in California and Mexico.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Bonnie Breshear of Long Beach, and a half-brother J. Ross Bewley, of Missouri.
